Alex Welsh scored a season-high 28 points and recorded a season-high 14 rebounds as No. 4 University of Colorado Colorado Springs improved to 12-0 in a 93-73 win at Western New Mexico tonight.
Derrick White scored 23 points with nine rebounds, nine assists and six blocked shots.
The Mustangs built a six-point lead at 17-11 with 10 minutes and 29 seconds left in the first half before the Mountain Lions assembled an 11-point run in the next four minutes. UCCS closed out the first half on an 11-1 run in the final 3:10 to lead 38-22 at halftime.
The Mountain Lions led by at least 15 points for the entire second half and shot 58 percent from the field during the final 20 minutes. Welsh scored 18 points in 12 minutes of action in the second half.
Welsh moved into fourth in UCCS career rebounding records and has 435 in his career. White matched his own UCCS single-game record with the six blocked shots and turned in his fifth 20-point game of the conference season. The Mountain Lions recorded their third straight 90-point game and third straight winning margin of 20 points or more.
UCCS will be off for the next two weeks and return to action Jan. 3 against Colorado State-Pueblo in the Gallogly Events Center. The ThunderWolves (7-4 / 4-2 RMAC) won 89-68 at New Mexico Highlands tonight.
