Volleyball Begins Final Playoff Push This Weekend

11/6/2014 10:22:00 PM

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team will begin the final push to an RMAC Tournament berth with the final matches of the 2014 regular season at home on Friday and Saturday. The Mountain Lions (10-15 / 6-10 RMAC) will host Chadron State on Friday at 7 p.m., and Black Hills State in the regular season finale on Saturday at 5 p.m.

UCCS is one match behind the eighth place teams of Western New Mexico and Black Hills State. Western New Mexico will be on the road for matches at Western State on Friday and Colorado State-Pueblo on Saturday, while Black Hills State will begin its weekend at Regis on Friday. UCCS holds the tiebreaker with Western New Mexico if the teams end the regular season tied, and holds the tiebreaker with Black Hills State if UCCS wins 3-0 or 3-1 against the Yellow Jackets.

The Mountain Lions are 7-4 at home this season and are coming off a 3-0 victory against Colorado Christian last Friday night. Lauren Hahn hit .406 with 16 kills in the win, and added five blocks on defense. The win kept the UCCS postseason hopes alive and provided more control for the Mountain Lions in the playoff push.

UCCS swept Chadron State in the first meeting this season, and closed out the match with a .448 team hitting percentage in the final set. It was the sixth win in a seventh match span for the Mountain Lions, with the lone loss in that span coming the night before in a 3-1 setback against Black Hills State.

A playoff berth would be the first for Head Coach Chrissy Elder and the first for UCCS since 2012. The Mountain Lions can then use the tournament to secure a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament by winning the RMAC Tournament and earning the conference's automatic bid.

Admission is free for UCCS students, faculty and staff with their ID card. Fans unable to attend in person can follow the action with live stats and through pay-per-view video streaming through America One Sports.
