Hernandez Scores 25 in Loss to California Baptist

Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Brittany Hernandez led both teams with 25 points with a 10-of-20 mark from the field, but the No. 8 University of Colorado Colorado Springs Mountain Lions fell 85-69 to No. 18 California Baptist tonight in Van Dyne Gym. Abby Kirchoff added 10 points as both student-athletes led UCCS with six rebounds each.

Hernandez shot 56 percent from the field in the first half and used her third steal of the half to tie the game on a fast break layup at 30-30 with 3 minutes, 9 seconds left in the period. She went two-of-three from the three-point line in the second half for a 14-point half to finish with her third 20-point game of the season.

Kirchoff scored nine of her 10 points in the second half to extend her double-digit scoring streak to 36 games. She improved her career total to 1,375, and is 89 points away from the UCCS career scoring record.

UCCS will remain in southern California for a 7 p.m., MST, game at Point Loma. The Sea Lions lost 69-58 to Bethseda tonight in their home-opener in San Diego, Calif.
