It was the first win for Head Coach Shawn Nelson at UCCS.

The Mountain Lions scored the first five points of the second half to narrow the Lubbock Christian lead down to 44-42, and kept it a two possession game for a five-minute period before the Lady Chaps took an eight-point lead on back-to-back jumpers. UCCS started to reach the free throw line with greater consistency and scored the first five points of a 7-0 run off of free throws to close the gap to one point at 57-56 with 11:12 to play. Kirchoff tied the game on the next possession at 59-59 with a three-pointer, and a three-pointer by Ramirez on the following possession provided the first UCCS lead since the opening minutes of the game at 62-61 with 10 minutes to play.

UCCS opened as much as a four-point lead off a pair of free throws from Kirchoff at 67-63 with 8:43 to play, and didn't trail until Lubbock Christian rallied for a six-point run to regain a three-point lead at 74-71 with 5:25 remaining. The Lady Chaps took a four-point lead at the 4:46 mark, and held an advantage until Kirchoff tied the game at 79-79 on a layup with just less than three minutes left. Kirchoff's layup was the start of a 12-2 run for the Mountain Lions that led to a nine-point lead at 89-80 with 33 seconds to play.

Lubbock Christian pushed the ball down the court and made a layup, and then stole the ball from UCCS to set up an inbounds play on the Lady Chap side of the court with a seven-point deficit at 89-82 with 21 seconds to play. Only two players scored in the final 20 seconds, with eight points from Haley Burton of Lubbock Christian on a pair of three-pointers and free throws, while Kirchoff made four free throws to keep UCCS ahead in the 93-90 season-opening win for the Mountain Lions.
