Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs used late goals for the second straight game to claim a 2-0 victory tonight against Colorado Christian at Mountain Lion Stadium. UCCS (5-5 / 4-3 RMAC) earned the season sweep of the Cougars (3-6-2 / 0-6-1 RMAC) with goals tonight from
Savannah Schill and
Michaela Mansfield.
UCCS held a 6-5 overall shots advantage in the first half, but Colorado Christian put more shots on frame with three against Mountain Lion goalkeeper
Grace Ramsden. The Mountain Lions took control early in the second half with two shots from Mansfield and a corner kick within the first four minutes of the half.
UCCS out-shot Colorado Christian 7-3 before Schill's goal in the 75th minute made it past the Cougars.
Calli Brody put the ball in play off a corner kick, and
Hannah Levett collected the rebound off of the Cougar goalkeeper to get it to Schill in front of the net.
Mansfield scored the insurance goal in the 85th minute after her first shot was blocked by the Colorado Christian defense. It was her third goal since Sunday afternoon that was scored in the last eight minutes of regulation. She moved alone into first in the RMAC with six goals this season.
Ramsden earned her second shutout of the season tonight with six saves. She led a defense that allowed 11 shots from Colorado Christian, the fewest for a Mountain Lions opponent since UCCS held the Cougars to seven shots on Sept. 24.
The Mountain Lions will remain at home to complete a three-game homestand on Friday in a 7 p.m., game against Fort Lewis. The Skyhawks (3-3-4 / 2-1-3 RMAC) defeated Colorado Christian 1-0 last Friday in their most recent game.
