Five-Match Win Streak Ends at Black Hills

Box Score SPEARFISH, S.D. – Kim Catlett led both teams with 19 kills and added 20 digs as a five-match winning streak for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs ended in a 3-1 loss to Black Hills State tonight. The Mountain Lions (8-8 / 4-3 RMAC) fell in 26-24, 25-22, 17-25 and 25-18 scores to the Yellow Jackets (6-10 / 4-3 RMAC).

The match featured 13 lead changes and 25 ties, with nine of the lead changes coming in the first two sets. Both teams were tied at 22-22 in the first set and 20-20 in the second set before Black Hills State rallied in each set for the 2-0 match lead.

The Mountain Lions turned in their best offensive performance of the night in the third set with a team hitting percentage of .277 for the 25-17 victory. Catlett made 10 of her 19 kills in the third set, and 10 of the UCCS kills in the set, to lead the offensive output. The Mountain Lions made a five-point run in the fourth set to take a 14-12 lead, but Black Hills State responded with an 8-1 run for a 20-15 lead in route to the 25-18 decision and the 3-1 victory.

Bush led the offense through the first two sets and finished with 14 kills tonight. Natasha Habert turned in a team-high 24 digs to lead the defense and Morgan Evans made 24 assists in a split-setter offense for the Mountain Lions.

UCCS will close out the three-game match trip at Chadron State at 6 p.m., on Saturday. The Eagles (3-12 / 2-5 RMAC) fell in three sets to Regis tonight.
