Cassidy Bush matched her season-high with 18 kills and five blocks in a four-set loss for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team at Regis University tonight in the Regis Fieldhouse. The Mountain Lions (9-15 / 5-10 RMAC) fell to Regis (15-8 / 10-5 RMAC) in 22-25, 25-22, 14-25 and 21-25 set scores.
UCCS took a 5-1 lead in the match on kills from Bush,
Kim Catlett and
Madison Palmer, and held a lead against the nationally-recognized Rangers until Regis took a 14-13 lead at the end of a 6-1 run. The Mountain Lions kept it close with a 4-1 run late in the set to pull within a point at 23-22 before the Rangers took the first set 25-22 on a block and kill.
The Mountain Lions took another early lead in the second with an 8-2 run for a 10-4 lead. Regis took its first lead late in the set at 19-18 at the end of a 7-1 run, but UCCS responded a 6-2 run to go back ahead 24-21. After a Ranger timeout, Regis scored to make it 24-23 and Bush finished the set with her ninth kill at the time as UCCS evened the match on a 25-22 win.
Regis took a 10-2 lead in the third set on its way to a 25-14 decision for a 2-1 match lead. The Mountain Lions and Rangers tied 12 times in the fourth set, the last time at 17-17. UCCS was within a point of Regis at 22-21 and in position to force a deciding fifth set, but the Rangers scored the final three points on kills to take the set 25-21 and the match 3-1.
Bush's performance was her best since an 18-kill, five-block performance against Western New Mexico on Sept. 26, and her .324 hitting percentage was her best since Oct. 2.
Celeste Henderson added another four blocks for the Mountain Lion defense and hit .357 with six kills in her second-best hitting percentage of the conference season.
UCCS will begin a three-match home stretch to close out the regular season on Friday in a 7 p.m., match against Colorado Christian. The Cougars (16-9 / 8-6 RMAC) won the first match between the two teams in three sets on Oct. 11.
