Kim Catlett recorded 15 kills with a .406 hitting percentage to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs offense as the Mountain Lions (9-13 / 5-8 RMAC) dropped a three-set match at No. 21 Metropolitan State University of Denver. The Roadrunners (18-3 / 12-1 RMAC) won in 25-20, 31-29 and 25-17 sets.
The Mountain Lions doubled up MSU Denver with an 8-2 run to lead 10-5 in the first set with three kills from Catlett in the rally. A kill from
Cassidy Bush kept UCCS ahead at 16-13 in the set before the Roadrunners scored five straight for an 18-16 lead. MSU Denver scored six of the final eight points of the set to take the 1-0 match lead on a 25-20 decision.
The Roadrunners held set point at 24-21 in the second set before UCCS evened the set at 24-24 with a kill from Catlett and two errors from MSU Denver. The two teams tied each other through 29-29 with each team earning points off kills on all of those points except one. The Roadrunners eventually took the second set 31-29 for the 2-0 match lead.
MSU Denver took a 5-1 lead in the third set but UCCS tied it at 6-6 with it's own 5-1 run. The Mountain Lions stayed within three points of the Roadrunners and tied the set again at 13-13, but the Roadrunners closed out the set on a 12-4 run with eight kills and a service ace to win the match in three sets on a 25-17 score.
Catlett finished with a season-high .406 in her fourth straight set with 15 or more kills. Bush added another nine kills for the UCCS offense, while
Celeste Henderson's four blocks and
Natasha Habert's 14 digs led the defense.
The Mountain Lions will face it's fourth straight nationally-ranked opponent at 5 p.m., on Saturday in No. 9 Colorado School of Mines. The Orediggers (19-2 / 12-1 RMAC) swept Regis in three sets tonight.
