Lo Vyvlecka scored the first two goals of her collegiate career, but No. 15 Metropolitan State University of Denver scored in the final four minutes of the game in a 4-3 loss for UCCS today at Mountain Lion Stadium.
Michaela Mansfield scored her eighth goal of the season and assisted on the two goals for Vyvlecka to record four points in today's game.
MSU Denver (11-1-2 / 8-0-2 RMAC) scored two goals in just more than 10 minutes to take an early 2-0 lead against the Mountain Lions (6-7 / 5-5 RMAC). UCCS got on the board after Mansfield's shot on the right side was blocked by the Roadrunner goalkeeper and bounced to Vyvlecka on the left side. With the game at 2-1, MSU Denver scored 19 seconds later to retake a two-goal lead at 3-1 for the second-fastest set of goals by opposing teams in conference history.
Mansfield made it a one-goal game again with 1:16 left in the first half after a one-on-one with the MSU Denver goalkeeper. The keeper came outside the box to block Mansfield's shot, but the rebound went high and behind the keeper, that allowed Mansfield to take on the Roadrunner defense without the goalie. It was her team-leading eighth goal of the season and she remains first in the RMAC with 0.67 goals per game.
Vyvlecka needed only 54 seconds in the second half to tie the game at 3-3 with her second goal of the day. Mansfield's shot was blocked by the Roadrunner goalkeeper, but not contained, and Vyvlecka took the short shot off the right side of the net to even the game.
The game remained tied for nearly the rest of the half, until MSU Denver earned a corner kick opportunity with less than five minutes in regulation. The Roadrunners kicked the corner from the right side of the field, and a well-placed header put MSU Denver back ahead at 4-3 in the 87th minute.
The Mountain Lions will be on the road for three of their final four games, starting with a Friday afternoon game at Adams State at 3 p.m. UCCS defeated the Grizzlies 3-2 earlier this season in Colorado Springs.
