James Roberts scored two goals within a 94 second span early in the first half to lead the Mountain Lions (6-7-1 / 5-5 RMAC) to a 4-0 victory today against Colorado Christian University (4-10 / 1-9 RMAC) at Mountain Lion Stadium.
Roberts moved into a tie for fifth in UCCS season records with goals nine and 10 today. He also moved alone into seventh in career records with 21 goals after today and into seventh in career points with 50 after today. Roberts is second in the RMAC this season with 10 total goals and 0.71 goals per game.
The Mountain Lions earned goals from
Mathew Cox and
J.R. Calhoun in the first half to take a 2-0 halftime lead against the Cougars. Those goals came within three minutes of each other with less than 15 minutes to play in the half.
The UCCS defense held Colorado Christian to one shot on goal and
Peter Vogrin earned his first collegiate shutout today. It was the fourth straight home shutout for the Mountain Lions against the Cougars in the series since 2010.
UCCS will continue a three-game homestand on Wednesday night in a 7 p.m., game against Colorado School of Mines. The Orediggers (9-5 / 7-3 RMAC) defeated MSU Denver 7-3 earlier today to clinch a spot in the RMAC tournament.
