Kim Catlett led both teams with 17 kills in a three-set loss on the road to Colorado Christian University this afternoon. Scores went 25-23, 25-19 and 25-19 in favor for the Cougars today.
UCCS and Colorado Christian exchanged the lead twice in the first set before the Cougars put together a 6-2 run to lead 10-6. The Mountain Lions pulled within one point of Colorado Christian four times later in the set, the last time sat 24-23 after a marathon rally that saw the ball go over the net 22 times before
Celeste Henderson and Hamilton put down a block for the UCCS point. The Cougars would take the set 25-23 with a kill on the next Mountain Lion serve.
Colorado Christian scored seven straight points in the second set for the 7-1 lead to eventually win the second set 25-19. The Cougars completed the match with a 25-19 decision in the third set with a 5-1 run to close the set.
Catlett recorded seven kills in the first and third sets and finished with a .382 hitting percentage. It was her best hitting percentage in a conference match this season and her most kills in any three-set match this season,
Cassidy Bush added nine kills and
Taylor Hamilton made six blocks on the defensive side.
UCCS will enjoy nearly a week off before a home weekend Oct. 17-18 against MSU Denver and Colorado School of Mines. Both teams are in a four-way tie for first in the RMAC standings with a 9-1 conference record.
