COLORADO SPRINGS. Colo. - The Mountain Lions unbeaten streak finally came to an end at home today against No. 9 Colorado School of Mines (5-1-1 / 3-1 RMAC) by virtue of a 2-1 loss for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (2-2-2 / 1-1-2 RMAC) at Mountain Lion Stadium.
Coming off an exciting 3-2 overtime victory Friday night over No. 16 Fort Lewis, UCCS came within a goal of continuing their early season unbeaten streak in the RMAC.
The Orediggers got on the board first when Baski Baker scored on a pass from Tesho Akindele for the game's first goal in the 27th minute for a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
Colorado Mines added to the lead on a Richard Garvey header in the box that snuck past UCCS goalkeeper
Brandon Costa in the 51st minute. Shortly thereafter,
James Roberts got the Mountain Lions on the board with a header of his own when he connected with Liam Levy-Phillipp in the 54th minute to make up the 2-1 final the game would finish at.
Roberts goal was his third of the weekend and fifth of the season. He is currently tied for second in the RMAC this season in total goals.
Colorado Mines took significantly more shots with the final count standing at 17-9. However, only six of the Orediggers shots ended up being on goal with UCCS' Costa making four saves in the game.
