Mountain Lions hit road for first RMAC games

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Men's soccer program at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (1-1) heads out on the road this weekend to begin conference play in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with a pair of games.

The team's first stop on the trip will be Denver, Colo. where the Mountain Lions visit Metro State (2-1-1) for a 3:30 p.m. matchup this Friday. The Roadrunners were picked to finish third in the RMAC preseason poll and lead the all-time series against UCCS at 37-11-3. Mountain Lion faithful can look for what should be a low scoring affair as Metro State boasts RMAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Andrew Mejia on the backline.

Sunday's drive will be the longest road trip the team embarks on during the regular season.  According to Google Maps, the trip from Colorado Springs to Grand Junction, Colo. takes approximately four hours and 46 minutes one way. Every minute will be worth however if UCCS can take down Colorado Mesa (2-1-1) at their place.

The last time UCCS squared off against Colorado Mesa was the Quarterfinals of the 2012 RMAC playoffs and saw the Mountain Lions grinded out a 1-0 victory at Mountain Lion Stadium courtesy of a James Roberts unassisted goal.  Roberts is currently scoreless on the season but this game should provide a great opportunity to fix that. The game kicks off at 3 p.m.

Top performers thus far in the season include J.R. Calhoun who leads the Mountain Lions in goals with two and Goalkeeper Brandon Costa (1-0) who has a shutout and RMAC Defensive Player of the Week honors to his credit.
