WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team (4-3) defeats McKendree (1-5) in straight sets (25-17, 25-21, 25-17) today in the third match of the Peggy Martin Challenge.
UCCS never trailed in the first set as the Mountain Lions were in control from the onset.
Kristen Sciacca led the offense with 5.5 points, four kills, and two blocks.
Sciacca finished the match with a well-rounded performance of eight kills, five digs, four block assists, and two solo blocks, with an attack percent of .571.
The Mountain Lions trailed by as many as five points, midway through the second set. Led by Emily Whitelaw, who scored six of her match-high and career-high ten kills in the set, UCCS finished the second on a 12-3 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Whitelaw finished with match-highs of 14 points and 10 kills, and added four block assists, two solo blocks, with an attack percent of .316.
The third set went back in fourth early on, with the score tied 9-9. That would be the final tie of the match though, as UCCS took off on a 9-2 run to gain firm control of the set. The Mountain Lions held on to win the set, and the match.
