Mountain Lions Enter Home Opener with a Perfect 2-0 Record

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - For the fourth time in program history, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs seeks to open the season with a perfect 3-0 record.

The Mountain Lions (2-0-0) are set to play the first home match of the 2013 season on Friday, Sept. 13, against the Tigers of Fort Hays State (2-1-0).This marks the third meeting between the two teams, all of which have been played at Mountain Lion Stadium. Fort Hays State has never beaten UCCS as the Mountain Lions own a 2-0 advantage in victories in total games played.

This Friday's match will be a battle of the offenses as Fort Hays State is fresh off of a 5-1 victory on the road against Northwestern Oklahoma State University. The Tiger's are led by freshman forward Sabrina Van Horn, an Evergreen, Colo., native. In three games she has notched two goals off of eight shots, good for a team leading four points. Look to see some familiar faces on the field as nine active players on the Fort Hays State roster hail from Colorado, including Colorado Springs native and Lewis Palmer HS graduate, Laura Regnier.

UCCS senior forward Agnes Arnadottir leads an impressive Mountain Lion offense and is chasing a record of her own. In the first two games she has scored three goals off of ten shots. She is currently tied for the career goals record with 18, and needs only one more goal to claim sole possession.  Sophomore center midfielder Brooke Tominello is also a force to be reckoned with and currently leads the team in shots with 11.  She has amassed four points off of one goal and two assists.

Action kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at Mountain Lion Stadium. Don't forget to sport your team jersey for youth night. Any player wearing their youth/club/high school jersey will receive free admission to the game for themselves and immediate family members.
