Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team (11-14 / 7-10 RMAC) defeats Black Hills State (7-19 / 3-14) tonight in straight sets (25-21, 29-27, 26-4) at the Gallogly Events Center for the final home match of the season.
Jordan Banich, who did not play in the match last night due to illness, looked to be on top of her game against Black Hills State as she recorded five kills in the first set. Banich had a great match all together as she finished with a team-high 12 kills and added five digs with one block assist.Â
The second set went back and forth, just as the first set did. There were five tie scores, but UCCS never allowed Black Hills State to take the lead. The Yellow Jackets battled hard and extended the game into extra time as it took UCCS 29 points before it could close out the second set to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Mountain Lions were led in the second game by Kristen Sciacca, who recorded six of her nine kills. Sciacca finished with 10 points, two block assists, one assist and one dig.
The third set was the most closely contested of the match as there were six tie scores and three lead changes. The Yellow Jackets played their best set of the night and were in prime position to win the game as they led 24-18. The Mountain Lions rallied though and scored eight unanswered points to win the third set and close out the match with a 3-0 win.
Three Mountain Lions played their final home-match of their collegiate career as Kristen Sciacca,
Heather Sanders, and Laura Loosbrock will all be graduating after this season. Sanders finished the match with 13 digs; Loosbrock recorded eight kills, three digs, two block assists, and one solo block in the match.
Up Next: UCCS will be back in action next weekend for the final matches of the regular season as the Mountain Lions travel to play Colorado Mines (21-4 / 15-1 RMAC) on Friday night, followed by their season finale against Colorado Christian (17-10 / 11-6 RMAC) on Saturday night.
