Box Score GOLDEN, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team (11-15 / 7-11 RMAC) falls to No. 13 Colorado Mines (23-5 / 17-2 RMAC) tonight in four sets tonight by final score of (25-19, 25-23, 21-25, 25-20). With a loss tonight, and a win by Fort Lewis, UCCS is officially eliminated from the 2013 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference post-season.
The Orediggers jumped out to an early lead in the first game, and never relinquished it. After falling behind by five points early in the set, UCCS made a run midway through to narrow the deficit to one point with the score 14-13. Colorado Mines answered with an 11-6 run of their own, to close out the first set with a 25-19 win.
The Mountain Lions were led in the first set by Cassidy Bush, who recorded five of her 12 kills. Bush finished the match also adding four block assists, one solo block and recorded a team-high hitting percent (.391).
UCCS was able to capture its first lead of the match in the second set, and held an 18-12 point lead, before Colorado Mines went on a 5-0 run to gain the momentum. As the score was tied at 23 points apiece, the Orediggers fed off that momentum and scored the next two consecutive points to win the set and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Jordan Banich had her best set of the match in the second as she tallied six of her team-high 16 kills. Banich also had a good night defensively as she finished the match with 12 digs.
With their backs against the wall, the Mountain Lions responded in the third set. They were tied 17-17 with the Orediggers, when Laura Loosbrock took over the game. She led UCCS to victory with all four of her kills in the set coming in the final stretch, which allowed the team to claim a 25-21 win to stay alive in the match. Loosbrock finished the match with 10 kills and a match-high five block assists.
