Fort Lewis Up Next for the Mountain Lions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team (9-4-1, 6-4-1 RMAC) will finish off the weekend this Sunday when they play host to the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College (12-3, 8-3 RMAC).

Sunday's match will be the second meeting between the teams in 2013. On Oct. 11, UCCS earned a huge 2-0 shutout victory on the road against Fort Lewis to hand the Skyhawks their second of only three losses this season. With the win, the Mountain Lions also knocked previously No. 12 ranked FLC out of the national polls.

UCCS will surely hope history doesn't repeat itself as this season bears an uncanny resemblance to 2012. In their first meeting of 2012, Hannah Levett notched the game winner as the Mountain Lions defeated Fort Lewis on the road in a 1-0 shutout win. It was the first loss of the season for the Skyhawks as UCCS ruined their perfect record. Less than a month later, Fort Lewis defeated UCCS at Mountain Lion Stadium in the quarterfinals of the RMAC tournament to end UCCS' season.

Junior forward Sam Weiss champions the Skyhawks offense. A 2012 Daktronics All-America Honorable Mention and 2013 RMAC Preseason Player of the Year honoree, Weiss has already racked up 17 points this season off of eight goals and one assist. She is tied with teammate Emma Cannis ( 5 goals, 2 assists) with three game winning goals for FLC.

Goalkeeper Caitlyn Espinosa has made 44 saves and boasts a .484 GAA while earning nine shutouts this season.

With only three matches left in the regular season, the Mountain Lions are fighting to clinch a playoff bid to the RMAC tournament. UCCS currently sits in fourth place, just one spot behind Fort Lewis. If the Mountain Lions finish in either the third of fourth spot, they would host a first round RMAC tournament game for just the second time in program history.

Kickoff for Sunday's game is set for 11 a.m. at Mountain Lion Stadium.
