COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team (7-9 / 3-5 RMAC) begins a three match home-stand Thursday as the Mountain Lions host the Mountaineers of Western State (1-15 / 0-8 RMAC).
Western State enters the weekend last in the RMAC for digs per set (12.29), blocks per set (1.32), Kills per set (9.18), and assists per set (8.53). UCCS currently ranks first in the RMAC for service aces per set (1.22), and third for blocks per set (2.04).
The all-time series between UCCS and Western State is tied 19-19, but the Mountain Lions have won the previous 10 matches, dating back to Oct. 29, 2004.
The Mountain Lions will be back in action for the second match of the home-stand on Friday as the team hosts the Grizzlies of Adams State (7-9 / 5-3 RMAC).
Adams State ranks fourth in the RMAC for hitting percent (.227), and for blocks per set (1.95). The Grizzlies are led on offense by Deprece Washington, who ranks seventh in the conference for hitting percent (.311). The Grizzlies are also led by Gabriella Riflato, who ranks first in the conference for service aces per set (.55), and sixth for assists per set (10.27).
The Mountain Lions are led on offense by
Kristen Sciacca, who is currently fourth in the RMAC for hitting percent (.348) and
Jordan Banich, who is fourth for service aces per set (.33).
The final match of the home-stand for UCCS is on Saturday night as the Mountain Lions host the Thunderwolves of CSU-Pueblo (7-10 / 4-4 RMAC).
UCCS leads the all-time series against CSU-Pueblo 25-21, and has won the previous eight matches, dating back to Sept. 9, 2006.
The Thunderwolves enter the weekend third in the RMAC for blocks per set (2.16), led by Brianna Bryant who ranks second in the RMAC for blocks per set (1.05). The Mountain Lions rank third in that same category, led by
Kristen Sciacca, who ranks third (.97) and by Emily Whitelaw, who ranks sixth (.89).
