UCCS beats No. 12 Wayne State

The well rounded attack by UCCS led them to victory in consecutive sets against No. 12 Wayne State at the 2012 Mountain Lion Invitational on Friday night.

Kim Catlett, Jordan Banich, and Amy Einspahr each finished with 10 kills in pursuit to the Mountain Lion's 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-20) victory against the Wildcats.

Senior middle blocker Nikki Kinzer finished right behind her teammates with nine kills, and a game-high six block assists.

The defense for UCCS was on point during this match as 10 Mountain Lions recorded at least one dig each.  Leading the way was freshman Katie Maguire who finished with a game-high of 17. Kim Catlett also had double-digit digs, finishing with 11.

Setter Grace Gordon also contributed to that strong Mountain Lion defense with eight digs, while still recording 16 assists.

Senior setter Lindsey Stich finished with 19 assists, adding three digs.

The balanced approach by the Mountain Lions has lead them to a 2-0 home record, and a 3-3 overall record as action continues for the 2012 Mountain Lion Invitational on Sat. Sept. 8. UCCS plays RMAC rival Fort Lewis College in a non conference matchup at 2 p.m., followed by the final game of the invitational when UCCS plays Midwestern State at 7 p.m.
