COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team (0-2) will open the 2012 home season tonight when the Mountain Lions host in-town opponent Colorado College (2-0) at 7 p.m. at Mountain Lion Stadium.
It's a series that has provided excitement in the past two seasons. Last year's 4-3 win by the Tigers was decided in overtime, as was the 2010 game that ended in a 3-2 Mountain Lion victory. Both of the games were won on each team's home field.
UCCS won three of its last four home games to close out the 2011 season, which finished a 6-3 record at home for the Mountain Lions. It was the first winning record since the stadium was renovated in 2006 and the team returned to campus from Sand Creek Stadium. UCCS is 4-2 in home openers in the renovated Mountain Lion Stadium.
Mash Shaswar led the offense for the Mountain Lions in last weekend's games in California. He scored a goal against California State-Stanislaus on Saturday afternoon and took six shots during the weekend, with five on goal.
Tonight will be the final nonconference game for the Mountain Lions before the start of the RMAC schedule in 11 days. UCCS opens the conference schedule Sept. 16 at home against Metro State.
