Kinzer Leads Mountain Lions in Day One at Grand Canyon Invite

Colorado Springs, Colo.- The UCCS women's volleyball team starts the season 0-2 after dropping their first two games at the Grand Cayon University Invitational on August 31, 2012 to hosts GCU and the defending national champion California State-San Bernardino.  

The Mountain Lions opened the season up against California State San Bernardino where lost in three straight sets (25-13, 25-18,  25-19).

In this game, the Mountain Lion offense was lead by freshmen, Jordan Banich, who was in on 30 team attacks and accounted for five kills with three spikes for 6.5 points. Banich also had three digs with one service ace.

Senior setter Lindsey Stich anchored the Mountain Lion offense recording 16 assists with seven digs. Stich was also in on three team attacks with one block assist.

Middle blocker Nikki Kinzer had four kills with 15 team attacks and three digs recording 5.5 pts. Amy Einspahr had four kills with nine team attacks and three block assists and scored 5.5 pts.

Kim Catlett and Katie Maguire lead the UCCS defense accounting for 19 of the Mountain Lions 33 digs. Catlett finished with nine digs, three kills and 15 team attacks as she scored 4.5 points. Maguire finished with 10 digs, and one service ace.

The second game of the day saw a much closer match, yet with a very similar result as the Mountain Lions fall to hosts of the Grand Canyon University Invitational in three straight sets, (25-18, 25-18, 25-22).

In this game, the Mountain Lion offense was lead by Nikki Kinzer and Kim Catlett who each accounted for six kills each. Kinzer finished with a team high of three block assists with one solo block. She also recorded four digs and was in on 25 team attacks and led the team in points with 8.5. Catlettfinished the game with a team high of two block assists, 15 digs, and 23 team attacks with two service aces for seven points.

Senior setter Lindsey Stich began to find her groove as she finished with two digs, three kills with a kill percent of .625 and added two service aces with 27 assists.

Jordan Banich led in team attacks with 28 and recorded eight digs with five kills on route to 6.5 points.

Katie Maguire anchored the Mountain Lion defense recording a game high 24 digs.
