UCCS Falls to #1 Regis in RMAC Semifinals

DENVER, Colo. - Liam Levy-Phillip scored the earliest goal of the season in the second minute to put the University of Colorado Colorado Springs up early against the top-ranked team in Division II, but Regis (17-0-1) added two goals in the half en route to a 3-1 victory today against the Mountain Lions (9-9-1) today in the semifinals of the 2012 RMAC Men's Soccer Tournament.

Levy-Phillip scored off the right side after gaining a pass from Mash Shaswar on the far sideline, and took advantage of an empty net after the Regis goalkeeper went down due to an injury on the play. The goal was the quickest of the season by more than two minutes and was the quickest for UCCS since at least the 2009 season.

Brandon Costa made a season-high 12 saves for the Mountain Lions, with seven saves coming in the second half after UCCS faced a 10-on-11 situation on a red card in the 58th minute. He finishes the season second in the RMAC with 81 saves.

The decision will likely mean the end of the season for UCCS. The NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Committee will announce the field for the postseason tournament on Monday night, but the Mountain Lions were not ranked in the latest regional poll on Wednesday that is used as a basis for the postseason selection.
