Mountain Lions Fall in First Round of RMAC Tournament

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The fourth-seeded University of Colorado Colorado Springs (13-4-2) women's soccer team opened the 2012 RMAC Tournament in a tough loss to fifth seed Fort Lewis (13-3-3) tonight in the first game of a doubleheader at Mountain Lion Stadium. The loss means the continuation of the season will be dependent on an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.

Both teams stayed scoreless until the 20th minute with Fort Lewis earned a goal from Sam Weiss. RMAC Goalkeeper of the Year Kelly Schroeder finished the first half with three saves.

The Skyhawks added a second goal from Weiss in the 52nd minute. Agnes Arnadottir, the all-time UCCS record holder for points in a season, recorded one shot on goal in each half to lead a Mountain Lion offense that saw six players earn a shot.

UCCS is ranked fifth in the most recent NCAA South Central Region Ranking that determines the teams for the postseason tournament. The Mountain Lions will await word on Monday night to see if the committee selects UCCS as an at-large team.

On the other side of the RMAC tournament bracket, No. 3 seed Metro State defeated No. 6 seed Colorado Mesa 2-0. The Skyhawks advance to the semifinals against No. 1 seed Regis, and Colorado Mesa plays No. 2 Colorado Mines on Friday afternoon.
