Lone goal holds up as No. 4 Fort Lewis beats UCCS

DURANGO, Colo. - A goal in the 44th minute held up as the No. 4-ranked Fort Lewis Skyhawks held on for a 1-0 win in a physical contest Sunday afternoon at Dirks Field.

Dawson Emrich floated in a shot from the right side at the 43:24 mark. Casey Dean and Jordan Alexander each assisted on the play.

UCCS goalkeeper Brandon Costa  stopped six of the seven shots that the talented Skyhawks managed to put on goal. The sophomore has allowed only nine goals in his eight starts this season and three of those have come by way of the penalty kick.

Eric Goldberg, Bret Drefs and Gabriel Causse each had two shots for the Mountain Lions, who slipped to 5-4 on the season and 3-2 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.

UCCS had two shots to tie in the final minute, but a Brandon Vongphackdy shot was saved by Fort Lewis goalkeeper Ryan Wirth with 41 seconds remaining and a Drefs shot with just two seconds left sailed wide.

Fort Lewis improved to 8-0, 4-0 RMAC.
