COLORADO SPRINGS - With less than two minutes remaining in the second overtime, the Regis Rangers came up with the golden goal as they defeated the University of Colorado Colorado Springs Mountain Lions 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Mountain Lion Stadium.

As the second overtime period drew to a close, Regis forward C.C. Rinehart used her breakaway speed to get past UCCS defenders and score the game-winner in the 109th minute.

The goal was almost knocked away by a sliding Cailee Osterman but even she was too late as UCCS (7-4, 3-4 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) saw its three-game winning streak come to an end. With the win, Regis moves to 9-3 (6-2 RMAC).

This is the second overtime heartbreaker UCCS has suffered at home this season and the team's third one-goal loss.

"I'm extremely frustrated because we put all that work in, and its reminiscent of one of our previous games where we put all the work in and we just don't finish out the full time," said UCCS coach Nichole Ridenour. "In terms of that, it's just us making sure that we stay focused the entire time whether it be 90 minutes or double-overtime, not get caught up in just single moments but actually keep our composure all the way through."

While the score may have been low, the number of shots that both teams managed to take was high as the teams combined for a total of 30 shots with 12 on goal.

The problem for UCCS was where the shots came from as the Rangers took 20 shots to the Mountain Lion's 10.

Mountain Lions goalkeeper Kelly Schroeder had a match-high seven saves against a Regis team that's currently second in the RMAC in scoring (2.55 goals per game).

UCCS now finds itself entering arguably the most important week of its season as it plays CSU-Pueblo, New Mexico Highlands and Adams State-all teams in contention with UCCS for the sixth and final RMAC play-off spot.
