COLORADO SPRINGS Â - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team had no answer for Danny Molineaux, who scored two second-half goals to lift his Colorado Mesa Mavericks over the Mountain Lions 2-0 on Friday night.
The first half was extremely evenly matched with the ball hardly ever leaving midfield. That all changed in the 67th minute when Molineaux took the ball from thirty yards out and dribbled in close for a 10- yard unassisted score on UCCS goalkeeper
Brandon Costa.
Fifteen minutes later he got his sixth goal of the season on a beautifully executed drive by Brandon Burton who drew in the lone defender and softly passed back to Molineaux who one-timed it into the back of the net.
Costa made three saves on five shots on goal and Mesa's keeper, Micah Conrade, had saves on all six of UCCS' shots on goal.
The Mountain Lions fall to 9-7 and 7-5 in the RMAC
"We didn't come to play today," said UCCS coach Henry Ellis. "We got wrapped up in what seed we are going to be, and now we are going to have to battle from here on out.
"Hopefully we can turn it around. Now it's all of a sudden a huge one for us on Sunday."
The Mountain Lions play Adams State in Alamosa on Sunday. The Grizzlies are 3-10-1 (2-9 RMAC) and lost 5-0 to Regis earlier Friday. The Mountain Lions beat Adams 1-0 on October 7th and are undefeated against them since 2009.
