KEARNEY, Neb. - The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs proved no match for the No. 12-ranked Nebraska-Kearney Lopers Friday night at the Health & Sports Center, dropping a 3-0 (25-19, 25-8, 25-15) decision.
The Lopers outhit the Mountain Lions .423 to .027, held a 54-33 advantage in digs and outblocked UCCS 7-1.
Nikki Kinzer and Alex Nuttall led UCCS (8-5, 2-2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) with eight kills each. Nuttall and
Kendall Utz each had seven digs.
UCCS did have some good news as setter
Cindy Bathelt, who had been limited with an ankle injury, started and played the entire match. Likewise,
Molly Crockett, the team's top hitter on 2008 before sitting out the 2009 season, also saw her first action of the season.
Jeri Walkowiak led Nebraska-Kearney (11-3, 4-0 RMAC) with 12 kills and had a hand in each of the team's seven blocks. Ariel Krolikowski and Kelsey Werner both added 11 kills, while Ellie Pesavento had 10. Katlyn Heiserman had a match-high 19 digs and Cola Svec had 42 assists.
