No. 16-ranked Metro State crushes Mountain Lions

DENVER - Scott Grode and Steven Emory each scored twice as the No. 16-ranked Metro State Roadrunners ran away with a 5-0 win over the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Friday afternoon at Auraria Field.

It was the second consecutive match against a nationally-ranked team for the Mountain Lions, who fell to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.

It was a UCCS mistake that started the scoring as a turnover at the top of the penalty area turned into a one-on-one between Emory and UCCS goalkeeper Adam Liszewski. Emory's unassisted goal in the 36th minute was the only score in the first half.

Kevin Pocalyko made it 2-0 in the 68th minute. Jack Belanger redirected Grode's free kick to Pocalyko, who flicked it inside the far post. Less than four minutes later, Grode scored on a breakaway set up by a through pass by Marc Herschberger.

Emory scored his second goal in the 82nd minute by hammering in a rebound of a David Toler shot. Grode scored his second goal with a shot from the top of the box in the 86th minute. Chris Yoder got the assist.

Liszewski made five saves in the losing effort. Issa Bissau made three saves in the shutout win for Metro State (4-1, 1-0 RMAC).
