Colorado Springs - The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs defeated McMurry University on Friday night with a school-record 10 goals in a single game. They beat McMurry 10-0, also a school record for largest margin of victory.
The previous records were set last year on October 30th when the Mountain Lions defeated Nebraska-Kearney 5-0. UCCS also had an astounding 49 shots in the game, including 24 shots on goal. The most impressive thing that UCCS did though, was holding McMurry's offence to no shots in the whole game.
Points were spread pretty evenly between Mountain Lion starters;
Kristin Preble had two of the first four goals,
Lindsay Link and
Josi Talbot each added a goal of their own,
Julia Saenz had a goal and two assists and the rest of the team also came in and played great against McMurry; Lindsay Birdseye,
McKenzie Genin, and
Jenna Lubieniecki each had goals of their own and
Ashley Hooper tacked two more goals onto UCCS's staggering total.
Sara Palizzi and
Jennifer Joern both had assists and
Candice Buckles came in with two more assists.
After the game, Mountain Lion head coach
Nichole Ridenour had this to say about her team's amazing performance, "It showed that we need to play up to our potential no matter who we play, we can't have let downs, we can't drop our expectations, we have tougher competition in the RMAC who also should be easy for us but if we drop to their level, it becomes more of a chippy game instead of a balanced possession, shots on goal kind of game. I think the girls did well to step up and we got a lot of girls a lot more playing time to get them more field experience and get them alittle more comfortable on the field."
The Mountain Lions are now 3-1 and look to continue their winning ways as they take on Mines and CSU-Pueblo at home next week.
