Mines shuts out Mountain Lions

GOLDEN, Colo. - Two days after posting its highest scoring output of the season, the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs men's soccer team was shut out 3-0 Sunday by the No. 17-ranked Colorado School of Mines Orediggers at CSM Soccer Stadium.

The Mountain Lions (3-4-1, 1-2-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) got off 15 shots in the match, but only two required saves by Mines goalkeeper Manville Strand.

On Friday, the Mountain Lions scored a season-best four goals in a win over Colorado State-Pueblo.

With Sunday's win, the Orediggers improved to 7-1-2, 3-1 in the RMAC.

Philip Wilson opened the scoring in the 29th minute when he beat UCCS keeper Adam Liszewski with a far-post shot from 15 yards out on the left side. Alex Nass got the assist on Wilsonâ's fourth goal of the season.

Liszewski had eight saves in the match.

In the 75th minute, UCCS was unable to clear the ball after a CSM corner kick, allowing Ted Decker to score his third goal of the season.

CSM increased its lead to 3-0 with a through ball from Cale Haas on the right side of the box to Jeff Nelson who ran in and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper for his fourth goal of the season.
