Colorado Christian evens season series with overtime win

LAKEWOOD - The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs led twice but was unable to hold the advantage, eventually falling 3-2 in overtime to the Colorado Christian Cougars Wednesday afternoon at Cougar Field.

Kristin Preble had a goal and an assist for the Mountain Lions (2-3-0, 1-2-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference). Jessika Williams added a goal for UCCS, while Julia Saenz had an assist.

Ashley Yearout, Samantha Dean and Brittany Corona each scored for Colorado Christian (6-1-1, 3-1-0 RMAC). The three goals were the most allowed by UCCS so far this year.

With the win, the Cougars evened the season series between the teams. UCCS took a 2-0 decision over Colorado Christian on Friday in Colorado Springs. The Mountain Lions have now accounted for four of the five goals allowed by the stingy Colorado Christian defense this season.

Williams gave UCCS the lead just 2:57 into the contest when she converted a Preble pass.

Yearout's unassisted goal in the 19th minute evened the match.

The Mountain Lions regained the advantage on Preble's score in the 35th minute. Jessica Escobedo's corner kick went through the penalty area, but Saenz collected the ball and sent it back through, where Preble headed it in.

Less than two minutes into the second half, Dean scored an unassisted goal to again knot the score. The tie held through the end of regulation.

With just 1:39 remaining in the 10-minute overtime period, Corona beat UCCS goalkeeper Kayla Millar, who replaced starter Ashley Armstrong in the 66th minute, to give the Cougars the win.

UCCS outshot Colorado Christian 21-10, with 12 of those shots going in goal. CCU keeper Liana Signorile made nine saves (a team save was also recorded).
