UCCS Surges into Third Place with School-Record Tying Eighth Straight Win

GOLDEN - The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs leapfrogged all the way into third place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings with a 3-1 (26-24, 20-25, 25-19, 25-11) victory over the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers Saturday evening at Lockridge Arena.

The Mountain Lions also improved to 16-7 overall, a 69.5 winning percentage. The all-time best winning mark posted by a UCCS team was 22-9 (71 percent) in 2001.

Laura Brodie led the attack Saturday with 18 kills in just 28 attempts (64.3 percent) as the

, which slipped to 19-6 overall.

Mountain Lions hit an outstanding 32 percent as a team. Jenica Shippy added 13 kills, while Sonja Johnson had nine and Nicole Pederson added eight. Andrea Brodie had five aces, including three during a pivotal run that gave UCCS control of the third set, which was just one off the school record.

Aside from the aces, Brodie also paced the defense with 13 digs. Kendall Utz added 11, while Kelsey Pobar and Johnson each had 10.

Elizabeth Serra-Hsu had 13 kills to pace Mines.
