COLORADO SPRINGS - Ted Decker had the only goal as Colorado Mines won 1-0 over the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs on Sunday afternoon at Mountain Lion Stadium.
This was the last game for the Mountain Lions and their two seniors,
Ryan Buttner and
Jeff Bettner.
"Bettner has been absolutely the perfect captain that I've had," said UCCS coach Henry Ellis. "Day in day out he's brought it every single day.
"Buttner battled today and that's the most important part and those two young men will be missed, but hopefully they've set the standard for years to come."
The first half remained scoreless with UCCS getting five corner kicks, but the Orediggers out shot the Mountain Lions 7-4 in that half.
The second half remained scoreless until Cameron Brown found Ted Decker who shot it past the UCCS goalie to earn the games only goal.
The Mountain Lions had their chances offensively in the second half getting six shots on goal, but none were fortunate enough to go in.
"It would have been great to end on a positive note," said Ellis, "it was unfortunate that we couldn't, but again we out shot our opponents and they win 1-0."
UCCS ended their season 5-12-2, 3-10-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Colorado Mines moved to 9-7-3, 7-4-3 RMAC.
Zach Kimball (6-6-2) earned the shutout with nine saves.
Adam Liszewski (4-8-2) received the loss with two saves.
"It's tough to go out on a loss," said Buttner, "but it was a good game, we played well, everybody played their part, and it just didn't happen for us."
