COLORADO SPRINGS - Wade Hood scored an equalizing goal in the 33rd minute but it wasn't enough as the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves prevailed 3-1 over the UCCS Mountain Lions Wednesday night at Mountain Lion Stadium.

The Thunderwolves took an early lead in the match when Corey Cullen poked a ball over the head of Bobby Cinea in the Mountain Lions' penalty area. The ball landed at the feet of Udobong Obotette who launched the ball past Mountain Lion goalkeeper Mark Howard.

The Mountain Lions responded in the 33rd minute when Bryan Stoeber connected with Hood.

"I was able to steal the ball and dribbled a diagonal run and Wade called for a pass through," said Stoeber. "[Hood] was able to beat three defenders to the ball and poked it in."

The goal was Hood's second of the season but what was impressive about it, was that Hood was brought into the game just a few minutes prior to scoring.

"It was great to be able to tie [the game] right then," said Hood. "We were really able to come together as a team then."

The Mountain Lions took a 1-1 tie into half but it wouldn't last long. It lasted two minutes and 49 seconds to be exact.

The Thunderwolves (3-3, 2-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) took advantage miscommunication in Mountain Lions defense on a free kick just outside the penalty area. David Frequez played the ball across the top of the box to an unmarked Allan Chacon, who placed a shot into the side netting just past the outstretched arms of Howard.

With the Mountain Lions pushing numbers forward in an attempt to score the equalizer, CSU-Pueblo was able to mount threats in transition. One of those paid off when Trevor Martinet knocked home a through ball from Dillon Good in the 63rd minute.

The Thunderwolves' goalkeeper Arturo Moranchel and Howard each made eight saves in the match. CSU-Pueblo outshot UCCS by a slim 19-17 margin.

The win gives the Thunderwolves a 2-0 advantage in the Steel and Silver Series which the Mountain Lions have won the past two years.

The Mountain Lions (1-4, 1-2 RMAC) hope to get back on track this Friday when they host the Regis Rangers at 3 p.m.
