DENVER --
Diane Sheldon led five Mountain Lions in double-figure kills as the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs defeated the Regis Rangers 3-2 (26-30, 30-28, 27-30, 30-27, 15-10) Tuesday evening at Regis Fieldhouse.
Sheldon had 18 kills, while teammates
Brooke Akers,
Lauren Orth and
Heidi Fehringer added 14 each.
Andrea Weedman was the fifth in double figures with 12.
With the win, UCCS improved to 17-10 overall and 15-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, by far the program's best conference record. The previous best was 12-7, which was accomplished in 2005.
Regis (10-16, 8-10 RMAC) was led by the duo of Meghan Meehan and Liz Franz, who had 30 and 26 kills respectively. Setter Devin Eckhardt had 73 assists.
Laura Meeter led the UCCS defense with 29 digs, but Regis nonetheless hit an outstanding .332.
UCCS is now 7-1 in five-game matches.
Until the deciding fifth game, neither team was able to build more than a four-point lead. A
Stephanie Laband kill broke that trend, giving the Mountain Lions a 12-6 lead. Kills by Orth, Akers and Sheldon, each separated by a Regis score, gave UCCS the final 15-10 decision and the match.
