The good news is that the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs volleyball team finished the 2005 regular season with a best-ever 12-7 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference record (16-12 overall) and will be making only its second trip to the RMAC playoffs next week.
The bad news is that after Friday's 3-0 (30-28, 30-20, 30-28) loss to the Fort Lewis Skyhawks at Durango, the Mountain Lions will be going into those playoffs with a three-match losing streak and will be occupying somewhere between the fourth and seventh seed rather that the No. 2 or 3 that was possible, even likely, just two weeks ago.
UCCS is now 3-5 in its past eight matches.
Friday, Nicole Schwab led Fort Lewis with 17 kills as the Skyhawks outhit UCCS .172 to .090 and had a 13 to 7 advantage in blocks.
Diane Sheldon led the Mountain Lions with 12 kills, while
Andrea Weedman added 11.
Scenarios for the RMAC playoff seedings are too numerous to list pending Saturday's matches but a complete bracket will be included in next week's volleyball notes.
