It's out of their hands now.

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs did its part, thumping Fort Lewis 3-0 (30-15, 30-22, 30-19) in its home finale Friday night. The Mountain Lions now have to sit and wait as their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference playoff fate won't be decided until Saturday night in Gunnison.

The Mountain Lions (14-14, 9-10 RMAC) are battling Adams State for the eighth and final playoff spot in the RMAC. The Grizzlies, who lost 3-0 to Mesa State Friday, have an 8-10 conference record and will play at Western State Saturday. Adams State has the tiebreaker advantage over CU-Colorado Springs, so Saturday's match will determine which team advances.

If Western State wins, the Mountain Lions are headed for Kearney, Neb. and the RMAC Tournament. If Adams State wins then the Grizzlies are the No. 8 seed and CU-Colorado Springs' season is over.

But to get to this point, the Mountain Lions had to take care of business on Friday night against a scrappy Skyhawks team.

"This is a really big win for us," said Jill Wrenn. "The crowd really brought a lot of energy tonight. I think we all fed off that."

Fort Lewis (5-21, 2-16) simply had no answer for Wrenn as she smashed out 19 kills, hitting .441. Wrenn's kill total Friday was more than double that of the next highest player, teammate Caroline Ottino (nine). Ottino added a match-high six blocks (two solo, four assisted), while libero Laura Meeter keyed the defense with 19 digs.

"Jill was unstopable at times but this really was an entire team effort," said CU-Colorado Springs coach Jessica Wood. "We served well, our passers gave Lindsey (Hillegass) good balls, and she set the hitters up with great chances to score."

Hillegass had had 39 assists. She now has 1,154 for the season, moving her into fourth on the school's all-time single-season list. The Mountain Lions lone senior, Kelly Olson, had 11 digs, five kills, and three blocks in her final game in the Lions' Den.

The Mountain Lions outhit the Skyhawks .222 to .000. Lisa Levings led Fort Lewis with six kills but hit just .040

The Mountain Lions have a chance to finish with their first winning season since 2001 if they can knock off the Colorado College Tigers Saturday night. The game, being non-conference, will have no bearing on the RMAC playoffs, but soon after the game is over the Mountain Lions should know the result of the Adams vs. Western game.

"We've done all we can do," said Wood. "Now we have to hope things work out right."
