The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (1-3) won one and lost three matches this past weekend at the Fort Lewis tournament in Durango.
CU-Colorado Springs lost to Fort Lewis (22-30, 29-31, 27-30) and Biola (17-30, 16-30, 24-30) on Friday and to Madonna (13-30, 32-30, 23-30, 22-30) on Saturday before beating Michigan-Dearborn (30-20, 30-22, 30-21) later that day.
CU-Colorado Springs played poorly in the opener against Fort Lewis. The Mountain Lions committed 10 service errors and 13 serve return errors en route to the three-game loss.
Kelly Olson, playing in her first game since 2001, led the team in kills with 12.
Unforced errors were again a problem for CU-Colorado Springs in Friday afternoon's loss to Biola.
On Saturday the Mountain Lions lost in four games to Madonna.
Kristen Denman and Olson led the team in kills with 15 apiece.
CU-Colorado Springs then ended its 21-match losing streak by beating Michigan Dearborn. The Mountain Lions cruised to a three-game win, never seriously being threatened by Dearborn.
Desiree Myhre had 10 kills and hit an outlandish .625.
Lindsey Hillegass, who was named All-Tournament, added three kills and 30 assists.
The win for the Mountain Lions was the first since they beat Colorado College on Sept., 14, 2002.
Overall, Coach Tara Miller was pleased with her team's play.
"Every single match we improved and played better and better as a team," said Miller. "That's exactly what I was looking for in this tournament."
