Mark Cipolla one-timed a deflected pass past University of Colorado at Colorado Springs goalkeeper Mike Archuleta with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation to give the Yellowjackets a 1-1 tie.

Chris Newton sent a pass across the top of the UCCS penalty area that was deflected wide by a Mountain Lion defender. Cipolla then drilled it high to Archuleta's right.

The Mountain Lions took a 1-0 lead in the match's first minute when Russell Aamodt won a ball in the corner and played it back to Robert Wark. Wark sent a long crossing pass to Chris Keen, who was making a run to the right goal post. Keen sent a low, hard shot past MSU-B goalkeeper Gordie Vierck.

The teams went scoreless in two overtimes, but there were some near misses. Keen drilled a shot off the cross bar that had the goal wobbling for several seconds, then bounced another off the right post. Cipolla hit a floater in the second overtime that hit the cross bar and bounced over the goal.
