Bush Leads the Mountain Lions Against the Mavericks
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team (10-11 / 6-7 RMAC) falls to Colorado Mesa (17-4 / 9-3 RMAC) tonight in straight sets (25-23, 25-18, 25-20) at the Brownson Arena.
UCCS began the first set of tonight's match much like they finished the final set of last night's match, with a 6-3 run. The Mavericks quickly rallied as they took a four point lead of their own midway through the set.
The Mountain Lions came back to tie the set at 23 points apiece, but the Mavericks scored the next two to win the set by two. Cassidy Bush and Jordan Banich each scored four kills in the set for UCCS. Bush also added three block assists to start the match. Bush finished the match with eight kills and a match-high of seven blocks and a team-high of 12 points.
Both teams went back and forth through the early part of the second game, but the Mavericks ended that at 7-7 as they went on an 8-1 run to gain control of the set. The Mountain Lions rallied to bring the score within four points, but the Mavericks held on to take the set 25-18.
The Mountain Lions were led by Kim Catlett in the set as she recorded five of her eight kills for the match. Catlett also added a team-high 14 digs in the match.
The teams traded the first 14 points of the third set, before the Mavericks scored five in a row to take the lead. The Mavericks held on tight to that advantage as they took the set 25-20 to win the match in straight sets.
Up Next: UCCS will be back on the road next weekend as the Mountain Lions play consecutive conference matches in Denver starting on Friday night against the Regis Rangers (12-9 / 8-4 RMAC).
