UCCS Defeats Steel & Silver Rival CSU-Pueblo
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team (9-10 / 5-6 RMAC) defeats Colorado State University Pueblo (7-13 / 4-7 RMAC) in four sets (25-14, 25-22, 19-25, 25-22) tonight at the Gallogly Events Center.
Kim Catlett picked up in the first set right where she left off the night before when she scored a career-high 18 kills. Catlett led UCCS in the first game tonight with a hitting percent of 1.000 as she recorded five of her of team-high 13 kills and helped UCCS to a 24-14 win. Catlett finished the match with another team-high of 13 digs.
The Mountain Lions were led in the second set by Jordan Banich, who recorded five of her team-high 13 kills to aid UCCS to a 25-22 win to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Banich also added a match-high three service aces, 11 digs and three block assists in the match.
CSU-Pueblo came out of the intermission with a renewed vigor as the Thunderwolves never trailed in the set and won 25-19 to extend the match. The Mountain Lions were led in the set by the trio of Kristen Sciacca, Cassidy Bush and Emily Whitelaw, who each recorded three kills in the set.
Sciacca finished the match with 10 kills and a team-high hitting percent of .250. Bush recorded six kills with a career-high and match-high nine block assists. Whitelaw contributed seven kills and three block assists in the match.
The fourth game was closely contested as it saw seven tie scores and two lead changes, but in the end, it was UCCS that gained momentum late to take the set by three points and conclude the match in four sets.
Grace Gordon tallied 10 of her match-high 42 assists in the set. She finished the match also adding seven digs.
Up Next: UCCS will be on the road for the next four matches, beginning Thursday night in Durango as the Mountain Lions face the Fort Lewis Skyhawks (5-13 / 5-5 RMAC).
