Loosbrock Matches Career-High in Kills Against Metro State
DENVER, Colo. - Laura Loosbrock matches a career-high 10 kills to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team (10-12 / 6-8 RMAC) tonight as the Mountain Lions fall to the Roadrunners of Metro State (14-9 /10-5) by a final score of 3-1(24-26, 25-17, 25-17, 25-15).
The Mountain Lions and Roadrunner traded the first eight points of the first set, before Metro State was able to score three straight to take the first substantial lead of the match. The Roadrunners added to their lead, but the Mountain Lions responded with a 4-0 run to pull within one point midway through the first set.
Metro State took a timeout to cool off the UCCS offense, which was successful for a short time as the Roadrunners regained momentum and took another three point lead. Just like earlier in the set though, the Mountain Lions answered with a run of their own to tie the first game at 22-22.Metro State then scored two in a row to bring about set point, but UCCS rallied again for another 4-0 run to take the first set 26-24.
Laura Loosbrock led the Mountain Lions in the first game with six kills and a set-high hitting percent .750. She finished the match with team-highs in kills (10) and hitting percent (.529). She also added two block assists on defense.
The Roadrunners scored the first two points of the second game and held on to their lead the entire set. The Mountain Lions were able to pull within one point several times and tied the score at 11-11, but could never take the lead as Metro State won the second set 25-17.
The Mountain Lions were led in the set by Jordan Banich, who recorded four kills, one digs, and one block assist. Banich concluded the match with eight kills and five digs.
The first half of the third set was dead even as the score was tied at 12 points apiece and neither team taking more than a two point lead. The final stretch of the game would not prove to be the same, as Metro State went on a run late, to win its second straight. The Roadrunner closed out the set on an 8-1 run to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Metro State carried its momentum into the fourth set as it led 13-8 midway through. The Mountain Lions scored a few consecutive points to narrow the gap to two, but the Roadrunners pulled away again and finished the set strong with a 25-15 victory to beat the Mountain Lions 3-1 in the match.
Kristen Sciacca led the Mountain Lions in the final set with three of her nine kills. She finished the match with a team-high 10.5 points and matched teammate Cassidy Bush for a match-high three block assists.
UP Next: UCCS will be back in action next weekend for its final home-stand of the season. The Mountain Lions will host the Eagles of Chadron State (1-13 / 4-20 RMAC) on Friday night, followed by a match against the Yellow Jackets of Black Hills State (2-13 / 6-18 RMAC) on Saturday night.
