Gordon Leads the Mountain Lions Against the Rangers of Regis
DENVER, Colo. - Setter Grace Gordon had a well-balanced performance tonight with a match-high attack percent of .571 and team-highs of 10 digs and 20 assists to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team (10-12 / 6-8 RMAC) as the Mountain Lions fell to the Rangers of Regis University (15-9 / 11-4 RMAC) in straight sets (25-23, 25-21, 25-15).
The Rangers scored the first point of the first set and never relinquished the lead as Regis went up by as many as eight points en route to a 25-23 win to start the match. The Mountain Lions fell behind 20-12 before UCCS mounted a comeback to end the set on an 11-5 run.
Although UCCS could not come all the way back to win the first set, the team continued its momentum into the second set as the Mountain Lions took their first lead of the match. They scored the first two points of the game, but were quickly matched by three from the Rangers.
The teams then traded the next 17 points before Regis scored a few in a row and took six point lead. With the score 21-15 in favor of Regis, UCCS again mounted a late comeback to narrow the gap to two points. But again, much like in the first set, the Rangers scored the final few points to reach 25 first as they took the second game 25-21.
UCCS responded early in the third set as it took a 4-2 led, but the Rangers quickly turned things around as they erupted on a 13-3 run to take firm control of the game. The Mountain Lions were unable to rally back in the final set like they had in the first two as the Rangers finished the third game with a 10 point lead.
Laura Loosbrock led UCCS on offense with a team-high eight kills and also added four block assists on defense.
The Mountain Lion defense was led by Cassidy Bush, who finished a match-high eight block assists.
Up Next: UCCS will be back in action on Saturday night as the Mountain Lions travel back to Denver to face the Roadrunners of Metro State (13-9 / 9-5 RMAC) starting at 5 p.m.
