Mountain Lions Play Mustangs This Thursday in New Mexico
SILVER CITY, N.M. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team (7-7 / 5-5 RMAC) travels to play the Mustangs of Western New Mexico (11-3 / 4-2 RMAC) Thursday.
Western New Mexico is a well balanced team, ranking in the top five in the RMAC for assists, kills, blocks, service aces, and digs.
The offense for the Mustangs is led by Shannon Rich, who is sixth in the conference for hitting percent (.332) and Alyssa Meihack, who is fifth in the conference for assists per set (10.56).
UCCS matches up well with Western New Mexico in these categories as Kristen Sciacca is fourth in the conference for hitting percent (.356) and Grace Gordon is ninth for assists per set (9.37).
The defenses for these two teams also match up well with each libero ranking in the top 10 in the RMAC for digs per set. Former RMAC Defensive Player of the Week, Heather Sanders, leads UCCS and is seventh in the conference (4.27), while the Mustangs are led by Angelina Pulu, who is 10th in the conference (3.85).
The Mountain Lions do have an advantage at the net, as the team is currently third in the RMAC for blocks per set (1.99), led by Kristen Sciacca who is first in the RMAC for blocks per set (.96).
This will be the first of two matches in New Mexico for UCCS, before the Mountain Lions host a three match home stand starting Oct. 17.
