Volleyball Begins the 2013 Season Next Weekend in Texas
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team begins the 2013 season on Friday, September 6 as the Mountain Lions travel to Canyon Texas for a four-game, non-conference road trip.
UCCS will be back on the road the following weekend as the team travels to Warrensburg, Mo., for another four-game, non-conference road trip.
The conference season begins on Sept. 20, as the Mountain Lions host Colorado Christian on the first night of whiteout weekend. UCCS concludes whiteout weekend and its first home-stand on Sept. 21as the team faces the 2012 RMAC volleyball champions, Colorado Mines.
UCCS will have seven additional matches at home, including a three game home-stand starting on Oct. 17, as the Mountain Lions host Western State, Adams State, and conference rival CSU-Pueblo. UCCS will also have ten more road matches, and will finish the regular season against Colorado Christian on Nov. 16.
UCCS has appeared in four of the previous five RMAC postseason tournaments, including a quarterfinal match in last season's RMAC tournament. The team returns two starters from last season, as first year head coach, Chrissy Elder, takes the helm.
Even with just two returning starters from last season, a confident coach Elder, states that "my expectations are pretty high for this program. Since I have been in the NCAA, including as a student-athlete and as a coach, I've never had a season where my team did not made it to the NCAA tournament."
Prior to becoming head coach of the Mountain Lions, Elder was the head assistant coach for four years at Central Missouri, where the team compiled a record of 122-22.
Elder and the rest of the Mountain Lions are set to take the court next weekend at the Lady Buff Classic, as they will face Lubbock Christian and Texas-Permian on Friday, followed by matches against Incarnate Word and West Texas A&M on Saturday.
