Mountain Lions Sign Three For Fall 2013
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs announces three new additions to the Mountain Lion volleyball team for next season. Cameron Girard, Morgan Evans and Emily Whitelaw have all signed letters of intent during the early signing period to join UCCS in the Fall.
Cameron Girard played on the varsity team at Douglass County high school for all four years. She was named captain of the team in her Junior and Senior seasons. The 5-10 outside hitter made the Second Team All-Conference in 5A and First team All-State for academics. She also helped lead Douglas to their first regional tournament in 14 years. In her senior season, Girard played 36 sets and recorded a hitting percent of .255 with 153 attack kills, 71 digs, 13 service aces with a Colorado state rank of 59.
Emily Whitelaw played on the varsity team for St. Mary's high school in the previous three seasons and helped lead the team to three consecutive Tri Peaks League Championships. She was a co-captain and the starting middle in her junior and senior seasons. In her senior season, she helped lead St. Mary's to an overall record of 26-2 and an undefeated league record of 10-0. She played 82 sets and recorded 230 attack kills, hitting .325, with 68 service aces, 62 total blocks and 16 solo blocks with a Colorado state rank of 33.
Morgan Evans was the starting setter three consecutive season for the Colorado Springs Christian Lions. She was captain for her final two years and helped lead the Lions to three league championships.Evans was named the Tri-Peaks Player of the Year as a senior. That season, played 67 sets, recording 652 assists (9.7/per set), 90 attack kills, 194 digs and 58 service aces with a Colorado state rank of 58.
Morgan Evans, Emily Whitelaw and Cameron Girard will all join the team Fall of 2013. Last season, the Mountain Lions advanced to the RMAC tournament and posted a 10-match winning streak during the year. UCCS went 10-4 at home to tie for the most home victories in program history.
