UCCS wins first of three road games of the weekend
Gunnison, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's volleyball team beats Western State 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-23) . The Mountain Lions extend their winning streak over the Mountaineers to 10-0 since the 2004 season. With the win, UCCS improves to 12-5 overall and 7-2 in the RMAC.
Senior blocker Nikki Kinzer led the UCCS offense in the first set as she records six of her 14 kills. Kinzer hit .714 and had two of her team-high five block assists in the set. The Mountain Lions came back from an eight point defecate, but would fall in the first set 25-23.
UCCS would respond in the second set as they led by as many as six points on route to a 25-21 victory, which tied up the match 1-1. Senior AmyEinspahr recorded six of her 12 kills in the set.
The Mountain Lions carried the momentum into the third set as they started on a 9-3 run, and led by as many as 10 points in a 25-15 win. FreshmenJordan Banich and Kim Catlett came up big for UCCS in the third set combining for nine kills and eight digs. Banich finished the set with five of her 14 kills and also finished the match with one block assist, 12 digs, and a game-high of 42 team attacks. Kim Catlett added four kills, five digs, and two block assists in the third set and had a well balanced game overall finishing with 11 kills, 16 digs, three block assists, three assists and a game-high of three service aces.
UCCS would go on to win the match as they take the fourth set 25-23. Senior setter Lindsey Stich set up the Mountain Lion offense as she puts in 13 of her game-high 39 assists in the set. Stich would also add seven digs, one kill and one block assist in the match.
Up Next: The Mountain Lions will be on the road on Friday, October 12 as they travel to Alamosa to take on No. 24 ranked Adams State. The Mountain Lions beat the Grizzles in their last match 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 27-14), on October 14, 2011.
