The Mountain Lions win 8th straight match
Colorado Springs, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colroado Springs women's volleyball team beat Chadron State 3-1 (18-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-15) Saturday night at the Gallogly Events Center. UCCS continues their winning streak, victorious in their last eight matches and remains undefeated at home with a record of 6-0. With the win, the Mountain Lions improve to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in the conference.
The Mountain Lions started the match off slowly as they lost the first set 18-25. Nikki Kinzer led the Mountain Lion offense in that first set recording four of her game-high 15 kills.
The UCCS defense would rebound after that first loss, and answer in the second set with six blocks and 23 digs for the team on their way to a 25-14 win to tied up the match. Kinzer would lead the defense this set as she had three of her game-high six block assists. Freshmen Kim Catlett would also help out on the defensive end, putting in six of her 18 digs in this set. Catlett also fired up the Mountain Lion offense in this second set as she finished with five of her 12 kills in this set.
UCCS carried their momentum into their third set winning 25-20 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.The Mountain Lions defense would be the difference maker once again; this time however, they were led by Sarah Balboa. Balboa would record 12 of her team-high 22 digs in this third set alone, and finished with the only service ace for the Mountain Lions.
Senior Lindsey Stich finished with a game-high and season-best 39 assists, while adding six digs and three kills.
The Mountain Lions also received offensive contributions from senior Megan Koop and freshman Amanda Bloom who each finished with eight kills and two block assists.
UCCS will be on the road next weekend as they take on Metro State (8-4, 3-1 RMAC) on Friday, Sept. 28, and Regis (8-6, 2-2 RMAC) on Saturday, Sept. 29.
