Bathelt, Johnson, three others named to academic all-RMAC team
The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced its All-Conference Academic teams for women's volleyball on Tuesday. Five Mountain Lions were awarded; Cindy Bathelt was named first team, Sonja Johnson second team, and Alex Wood, Skylar Lewandowski, and Jenica Shippy were all named to the honor roll.
Bathelt is a senior Geography and Environmental Studies major and is carrying a 3.82 GPA. She leads the team and is fourth in the RMAC in assists with 780. Johnson is majoring in Electrical Engineering with a 3.86 GPA. She is third on the team with 164 kills and along with Bathelt is the leader in sets played with 79.
Wood currently has a 3.67 GPA in Math and is second on the team in kills (168). Lewandowski is the only non-senior to make the list from UCCS. She is a sophomore with a 3.62 GPA in International Business. She also leads the team in aces (20) and digs (270) and is second in assists with 40. Shippy is currently carrying a 3.57 GPA in Accounting and plays back row and outside hitter so she has high numbers in all categories.

|February 27, 2012||Cindy Bathelt to play professional volleyball in Rome||Cindy Bathelt will be playing in Rome next fall! The UCCS senior setter will be playing for Aprilia Volleyball Club from August 2012 through May 2013. Aprilia is currently a ‘Serie C’ team that is looking to regain its form and move up the ladder in the Italian rankings. The club is serious about this undertaking, as they’ve hired a trio of American players. Joining Cindy are an outside hitter from Wake Forest and a middle blocker from the University of Miami. They will be 20 minutes south of Rome and living together after a month each with a host family. Italian lessons are mandatory and Cindy is excited to, “have the opportunity to pursue the next chapter in (her) career in such an incredible place as Italy. The people are very outgoing, rich in culture, and the pizza is the best in the world!”|
